The journey towards shaping Europe’s next generation of smart manufacturing specialists has reached its most exciting milestone yet. Following months of intensive e-learning and spirited local contests, the stage is set for the Digital Twin International Skills Competition in Alba, Italy.
This flagship event brings together the brightest vocational and higher education students from across Europe to demonstrate how virtual simulation, automation, and digital technology can transform modern industry.
Celebrating Success Across Europe
Before reaching the international stage, participating students put their skills to the test in national competitions held across Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Sweden.
These national events brought together dedicated teams of four students, supported by their teachers and tutors, to solve real-world industrial scenarios. Drawing directly from their training on the Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing e-learning platform, participants proved their ability to analyse complex systems, collaborate under pressure, and propose practical solutions for cleaner, more efficient production.
The national contests did more than select finalists; they highlighted the growing demand for the “Digital Twin technician” profile—a versatile professional skilled in bridging the gap between hardware engineering and digital software.
The Ultimate Challenge in Alba
From 6 to 9 October 2026, the winning national teams will gather physically at Formación APRO in Alba, Italy, to compete in the international final.
Over two days of intensive teamwork, the finalists will tackle a comprehensive, multi-faceted case study designed to reflect the real operational challenges faced by modern smart factories. Working side-by-side in a professional environment, teams will be evaluated by an international joint committee of educational partners and industry experts on:
- Technical Precision & Problem-Solving: Demonstrating accurate execution and practical innovation.
- Collaboration & Workflow: Showing effective role division, time management, and team communication.
- Clear Communication: Presenting technical ideas clearly and convincingly in English.
Beyond the Competition: Industry and Heritage
The International Skills Competition is designed as a complete professional and cultural experience. Alongside the main challenge, participants and educators will take part in exclusive industry visits aimed at inspiring future technical leaders:
- Siemens Digital EXperience Center (Piacenza): A guided tour exploring cutting-edge technological visions, industrial software applications, and the future of smart automation.
- Museo Ferrari (Maranello): An exploration of world-class automotive engineering, precision design, and industrial heritage.
To further support career development, the top-performing teams will be awarded study visits and mobility packages, allowing them to explore leading European tech enterprises and expand their professional horizons.
